A retired consultant at Stoke Mandeville Hospital faces 16 charges of rape, indecent assault and procuring an abortion.
A jury at Reading Crown Court has been told 79-year-old Michael Salmon allegedly examined young girls in a room screened-off from their parents where the attacks took place.
The historical charges relate to eight girls and it is claimed the youngest was 11 years old.
Outlining the case for the prosecution, Miranda Moore QC told the jury that Mr Salmon took advantage of his status as consultant to fondle, internally examine and, in some cases, rape his patients.
It was claimed he took nude photos of one rape victim, a girl who had operations every six months and that another victim had to give him a hug and a kiss at the end of every consultation.
It is alleged the offences were committed at the hospital in the 1970s and 1980s at the same time Jimmy Savile was assaulting patients, but there was no connection other than they took place at the same time.
Ms Moore said Savile would hardly feature in the case. "There might be the odd passing reference, but there's no suggestion that this defendant abused a young female patient in concert with Jimmy Savile.
"It's simply that these allegations relate to a time when the other things were happening," she said.
Ms Moore said Salmon was no longer a doctor as he was struck off the medical register in 1991 after admitting three cases of indecently assaulting patients at the hospital.
Salmon denies all 16 charges.
