Women Bishops Approved In First Of Three Votes

The Church of England has voted to allow its first ever female bishops, ending half a century of wrangling over the role of women.

The decision, taken by the General Synod in York, reverses a previous rejection in 2012.

It followed a five-hour debate by the church's governing body.
