Nigerl Farage isn't the first politician to be struck by an egg while on the campaign trail.

The BNP leader was famously bundled away by his security team after a mob of protesters from Unite Against Fascism confronted him outside the Houses of Parliament in 2009 during his party's campaign in the run-up to the local and European elections.
:: David Cameron
The Prime Minister was hit by an egg thrown by a teenage student as he was leaving Cornwall College in Saltash in 2010. Mr Cameron's assailant was later released without charge after being questioned by police.

The Deputy Labour Prime Minister was egged during a rally in Rhyl, Wales in 2001. Mr Prescott responded with a left jab to Craig Evans, a farm labourer protesting about the treatment of the farming industry.

The Labour leader was pelted with eggs during a campaign visit to south London in 2013. "This is not the first time it's happened to me, I'm sure it's not the last," he said.

The then Labour Education Secretary had been giving evidence against a Fathers 4 Justice campaigner in 2006 when she was struck with an egg as she left Salford Magistrates' Court.

The former Conservative Prime Minister was hit in the face with an egg thrown by a student while campaigning for the general election in 1992. The egg hit Mr Major on the right side of his face and dribbled down onto his clothes. Student John McIntyre who was 25 at the time was later fined £175 and ordered to pay for Mr Major's suit to be dry cleaned.
