Detectives investigating the disappearance of a three-year-old boy in Edinburgh are now examining a second address in the city.
Forensic police are collecting evidence at block of flats not far from the toddler's home.
Mikaeel Kular was last seen going to bed at 9pm on Wednesday night.
His jacket and shoes are missing and so far there has been no evidence to suggest a crime has been committed.
His mother and four siblings - including a twin sister - were in the flat in Ferry Gait Crescent, in the Drylaw area, when he disappeared.
When his mother went to find him at around 7.15am, her son was missing.
The little boy is described as 3ft tall and possibly wearing a beige hooded jacket, brown shoes and pyjamas.
Police also want to speak to anyone who may have been travelling through the Muirhouse and Pennywell areas this morning and may have seen the child walking on his own.
Coastguard and lifeboat crews are searching the shoreline in the Cramond and Drylaw areas close to Mikaeel's home.
Superintendent Liz McAinsh told a news conference: "I would ask local residents to think about their own homes, their gardens, their buckets, their outbuildings. Anywhere you think a three-year-old boy might be. Keep your eyes open in parks as well.
"At this stage we're keeping an open mind. There is no evidence to suggest criminality at this moment but clearly we are keeping an open mind.
"We are using all the resources at our disposal to find this boy."
The superintendent expressed concern about the weather.
"It's cold, it's the middle of winter - we want to get Mikaeel home safely as quickly as we can.
"We know his jacket and shoes are missing from the house. We don't know yet what has happen to him, but him going for a wander is one line of enquiry we're following up.
"We have air support out, we have dog support, we have resources coming from all over Scotland.
"He's described as a friendly and playful wee boy. He has four brothers and sisters. He has a twin sister who I'm sure will now be wondering what's happened to her wee brother.
"We are following all lines of inquiry ... the family are being very helpful. As you can imagine, the mother is distraught and she just wants help in finding her child."
She refused to comment on reports that there was a custody issue which Sky News Scotland Correspondent James Matthews had learned about "on the basis of chat in the locality".
He said: "There was no particular answer on that. It may be that she has devolved that particular matter to the team on the ground but she wasn't able to say yes or no, about speaking to the father."
The father is understood to be of Pakistani origin.
Neighbour Nicola Garrick said: "I just know him from passing him on the street with his mum and that ... happy wee boy ... beautiful wee boy ... always got a smile on his face, so it's obviously a shock to see that he's missing."
Earlier, Matthews said: "Police particularly want to know how he left the house. That is the main thrust of the inquiry at this very early stage.
"An urgent police appeal has gone out to anyone who may have any information to get in touch with them - anyone who remembers seeing a young boy matching the description of Mikaeel ... clearly time is of the essence."
There had been police activity at a flat about half a mile away from Mikaeel's home address in Waterfront Gait in Granton.
But this was understood to be unconnected to the child's disappearance.
Former Scotland Yard detective Peter Bleksley told Sky News: "Police have already mobilised the air support unit, there will be dogs on the ground - or there certainly should be - they may be able to do tracking, that sort of thing.
"And they will also be making inquiries about local registered sex offenders - checking those addresses out, speaking to those people, as well as all the relatives and other people who are known to the child."
Chief Inspector Sara Buchanan said when the appeal was first launched: "We have currently got a large police presence within the Drylaw area as we conduct our enquiries to trace Mikaeel.
"We are keen to hear from anyone who remembers seeing a young boy matching his description since yesterday evening to contact police immediately.
"As part of our investigation we are also trying to determine how the child has left his home and anyone with information that can assist with these enquiries is also asked to get in touch."
Anyone with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
